Indian
River County Auxiliary Communications Service will sponsor Kid’s Day on June
21, 2003 to encourage young people to enjoy the magic of Amateur (Ham) Radio.
The event will be held at the Indian River Mall, in connection with the
Hurricane Preparedness Expo
from 10AM to 4PM. Kids of all ages
will have an opportunity to talk on the radio and
certificates of participation will be given to kids under 19.
The
Indian River County Emergency Management Division and citizen volunteers have
recently organized a new public service emergency
service organization known as the Auxiliary
Communications Service (ACS). This
group uses amateur, public and private radio services to provide emergency
communications for Indian River County.
ACS is a Homeland Defense Citizen Corps group. Services of the ACS will
also be used during national disasters, hazards, threats
or any events requiring supplementation of county, municipal or public safety
communications.
ACS
members are trained volunteers registered as county disaster services workers.
Membership applications and additional information will be available at
the ACS booth during the hurricane expo.
For further information about Kid’s Day, licensing classes, or ACS contact Chris Myers at 772-567-0937 or E-mail acs@wgylfm.com . The Indian River County Auxiliary Communications Service offers information online at www.ircacs.org .
